KSE Guitar Lesson

These guys write songs with a purpose. This purpose would be doing something cool while playing it live in concert. Mark will appreciate this I know. Hilarious.

Christmas Is Not Fun Anymore

I dread Christmas. There I said it. What is it about the birth of our Lord that made us want to create a holiday where everyone goes into debt buying things for each other that they don't need while At the same time everyone is on edge and angry? I know it's fun for the kids. It was for me too. But I'm over it. It's not that I don't want to give, it's just that I don't want to give without purpose. And if the purpose is that my friends and family and I have more stuff in the end then count me out.
I'm not totally scrooged out yet. I still enjoy the look on someones face when you give them something they have been wanting or didn't think they needed. But if I had a choice I would probably choose to take the scissors to the calendar and cut out the day after Thanksgiving until Dec 26th and just skip over it all. Sad but true.

Another Celebrity Encounter

I do not get starstruck at all in front of celebrities because celebs just don't impress me much. However, as some of you may know, last year I was volunteering at my church to help work security for a concert. I somehow ended up being Randy Travis' dressing room security guard. I escorted him to and from his dressing room. So weird!

Tonight another weird event took place. I was thrust into another celeb security opportunity. Tonight I was a security guard for Clay Aiken at the same church. This one was a much bigger scale because of some actual threats against his life that had been identified. Seriously...Some crazed Aiken fan had called in some real death threats. So I, along with a bunch of other guys, had to escort him to his tour bus from the venue. I patted him on the back and said "Good show tonight!", which was kind of a lie since I had security detail all night and never even saw the show.

Strange how I volunteer for to pass out flyers at these shows and I somehow get picked to be the one that has to possibly take a bullet for these celebs.

Oh well, moving on...

Medal Of Honor Monday

*SMITH, PAUL R.

Rank and Organization: Sergeant First Class, United States Army
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:Sergeant First Class Paul R. Smith distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action with an armed enemy near Baghdad International Airport, Baghdad, Iraq on 4 April 2003. On that day, Sergeant First Class Smith was engaged in the construction of a prisoner of war holding area when his Task Force was violently attacked by a company-sized enemy force. Realizing the vulnerability of over 100 fellow soldiers, Sergeant First Class Smith quickly organized a hasty defense consisting of two platoons of soldiers, one Bradley Fighting Vehicle and three armored personnel carriers. As the fight developed, Sergeant First Class Smith braved hostile enemy fire to personally engage the enemy with hand grenades and anti-tank weapons, and organized the evacuation of three wounded soldiers from an armored personnel carrier struck by a rocket propelled grenade and a 60mm mortar round. Fearing the enemy would overrun their defenses, Sergeant First Class Smith moved under withering enemy fire to man a .50 caliber machine gun mounted on a damaged armored personnel carrier. In total disregard for his own life, he maintained his exposed position in order to engage the attacking enemy force. During this action, he was mortally wounded. His courageous actions helped defeat the enemy attack, and resulted in as many as 50 enemy soldiers killed, while allowing the safe withdrawal of numerous wounded soldiers. Sergeant First Class Smith’s extraordinary heroism and uncommon valor are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Third Infantry Division “Rock of the Marne,” and the United States Army.

Police Codes

This is a rerun of an old post that only I thought was funny. Everyone else thought it was dumb...

Police use a number code to describe different situations and conditions. For instance a 187 is code for homicide, a 207 indicates a kidnapping, a 211 is an armed robbery. Well I found some lesser known codes that the police use...

621 = urination in the public pool. 621-b of course means we have a floater.

314 = suspect coughed up a lung

213 = operating a sit-n-spin while under the influence

389 = someone in Wal-mart without a dirty tank top on

444 = using an iron to make a grilled cheese sandwich

121 = we got a midget throwing rocks at cars

998 = white guy trying to dance in the street

898 = a guy named daryl trying to pass himself off as cool

166 = 3 dudes jump out and just start wailing on this one guy

Wow who knew there were so many specific codes?

John Piper On The Prosperity Gospel

This movement is taking over the Christian Church in America. I love what John Piper has to say about it...

I call it the hijacking of the true Gospel. So sad. Pray hard!

This Seems To Be Happening All Too Often

Sex Scandal Rocks Atlanta Mega Church

Makes me cringe! After you read the article you realize that this is a messed up church. They've had sex scandals going back since the 1990's and yet they continue to keep the same pastors around. Their membership dropped from 10,000 members in the mid 1990's to 1,500 today.

I think that this is going to be happening more and more. The Lord is going to reveal the true heart of some of these pastors. I just would hope and pray that Christians, especially pastors, would acknowledge their sins and step down from their places of spiritual authority. God can restore and heal but not until we admit our sin.

Live performance of Ralph Vaughn Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

I'm not a fan of classical music, but this is incredible music. If you have 17 minutes to spare then close your eyes, push play, and relax.
This piece was the main theme for the movie Master and Commander.
It's pretty breathtaking. You should hear the recorded version on a set of surround sound speakers. It might bring you to tears...not kidding.

I Believe In God...

As simple as the above video is, to me it proves that there is a God who created a world of beauty and design. It might seem odd to come to that conclusion from this video but it brought such a smile to my face. The innocence of it all, the wonder and laughter on a baby's face, that's a miracle! It's the gift of life that most of us have taught ourselves to take for granted. We've lost the wonder. A young child hasn't yet been crushed by the blow that evil brings to this world. Like Joaquin Phoenix said in the movie Signs, I'm a miracle man. I look at this and find comfort. Great video! Hilarious!

Why Are Christians So Afraid Of War?

I remember getting into a discussion with a fellow Christian about the subject of war. This person told me that God would never condone war in this day in age. He wants us to love our neighbor and "turn the other cheek."

I don't believe it. Romans 13:4 says of the Government which God gave authority..."If you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing."
"Turn the other cheek", does not mean we tie our governments hand against fighting for freedom. There are real people in Iraq that want real change. They want better lives for their children then tyrants who kill their own citizens. As Christians why should we turn a blind eye to that?

Also, how could we think that God is anti-war after we see what is coming in the end. I mean the streams will flow red with the blood of the enemy. Talk about your all time wars. The final war is gonna make Iraq look like Rock em Sock em Robots.
It will be the final battle of good over evil. We are going to storm the gates of hell and heads are going to roll! And our savior is going to ride in on a white horse victorious! Revelation 19:11
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.

Now if that is not brutal warfare I don't know what is! Are we afraid of it because we are Christians? Or should we embrace war as a reality of life?
